Government loyalists continue to harass and attack journalists in Egypt. CBS’ Lara Logan was detained along with her crew outside Cairo’s Israeli embassy, and The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof says police are aggressively raiding hotels in search of journalists. Other reporters have been attacked: Two members of a Fox News team and a reporter from Al Arabiya were hospitalized after being beaten, and an ABC crew was carjacked and threatened with beheading. The Committee to Protect Journalists is investigating at least two dozen cases of reporters being detained for “protective custody.” The White House condemned the behavior, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the attacks on journalists, peaceful demonstrators, foreigners and diplomats “a violation of international norms” guaranteeing freedom of the press. The State Department said U.S. Embassy had been in touch with the foreign ministry to register “our grave concern” for the situation.
