Women considering an abortion in England should be told that it “is generally safer than continuing a pregnancy to term,” says the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The “draft guidance” also says that all doctors, nurses, and counselors should tell women that most who terminate a pregnancy don’t have psychological health issues. The draft, which includes the facts in a “what women need to know” section, has attracted the ire of anti-abortion groups, who point out that there are studies linking abortion with psychological issues and say the comparison of between the safety of pregnancy-termination and birth is political.
