Google says hackers from China attempted to "hijack" hundreds of Gmail accounts, including those of senior U.S. government officials, Chinese activists, and journalists. It’s not certain what they were after, but “hijacking” is a way of trying to trick Gmail users into disclosing passwords, which would allow them to forward and redirect any email message. Google said it “detected and has disrupted this campaign,” though it did not say whether the hackers were able to come away with valuable information.
