A 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook the city of Van in eastern Turkey on Tuesday, causing some 18 buildings to collapse, including a six-story hotel. A spokesman from the Turkish Red Crescent said 11 people had been pulled out from beneath the hotel rubble but that many others likely remain trapped. Three are confirmed dead. Luckily, all of the other collapsed buildings were empty of people due to damage caused by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake last month in a nearby province, which claimed the lives of more than 600 people.
