Rick Santorum is trying to push Newt Gingrich out of the GOP primary—by using his supporters as his on-the-ground army. NBC News reported late Tuesday night that Santorum senior campaign strategist John Brabender said the key to Santorum’s success will now be a one-on-one race with Mitt Romney, and the only way to do that is to rid the race of Gingrich. “It’s time for conservatives to say, ‘Look, we’re going to rally behind one candidate, Rick Santorum,’” Brabender said. He added, “We’re never going to call on anybody to get out, but what we are calling on is Tea Party supporters and conservatives to rally behind the only candidate that has demonstrated over and over again that he’s the one who can compete against Mitt Romney.”
