The Iranian government has raised the number of fatalities from Saturday’s twin earthquakes to 300 after 50 additional people died in hospitals, officials said. The magnitude of the twin temblors in the earthquake-prone nation measured 6.4 and 6.3 on the Richter scale and reportedly completely destroyed six villages, causing serious structural damage in at least 130 more. A series of 36 aftershocks shook the region, terrorizing residents in a wide radius around the disaster zone. An additional 3,000 people are reported to have been injured in the quakes.
