On Monday, St. Louis County Circuit Judge Carolyn Whittington extended the grand jury’s time to the maximum allowed by state law, allowing an additional sixty days to determine whether or not Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown, should face criminal charges. “She extended it to the full amount by law,” a court administrator said, adding that while the extension allows the grand jury to meet until January 7, it does not necessarily mean it will take that long to come to a decision. This decision comes during high-stressed times with local business owners, who worry that violence and looting that has plagued the area will return if the grand jury does not put Wilson on trial.
