Myanmar’s navy has redirected a boat carrying 727 migrants to Bangladesh’s neighboring waters, an official said Tuesday. The migrants were discovered Friday in a converted fishing boat that was filling with water. Ye Htut, Myanmar’s information minister and presidential spokesman, said the navy was assisting the migrants who allegedly wanted to go to Bangladesh instead of Myanmar. “It is based on their wishes. We will cooperate with them to send them to Bangladesh,” he said. Ye Htut added the navy was providing the migrants with water and food as well.
