A group of archaeologists believe they have found clues that indicate that part of a group of colonists who went missing from Roanoke Island, North Carolina, in the 1500s moved 60 miles east to a place called Merry Hill. The First Colony Foundation has spent three years excavating the site, finding Native American and European artifacts. In 1587, 100 settlers moved to the island, but three years later all that was left of them was a clue "Croatoan" carved into a fence post. The foundation will reveal its findings on Tuesday, and says its evidence indicates the location of at least some of the missing Roanoke colonists.
