The Bolivian Civil Aviation Authority has indefinitely suspended permission for operation of LaMia—the airline whose charter plane crash killed 71 people Monday night. The authority announced the move Thursday without providing additional information about the decision. LaMia Airline was founded in 2009 in Venezuela but currently operates in Bolivia. The plane, which was carrying 77 people, including many members of a Brazilian soccer team, went down while approaching Medellin, Colombia. Only six people survived. According to a recording of the pilots’ communications with air-traffic controllers, the plane was running out of fuel when it went down and begged for clearance to land. Colombian air-traffic controllers reportedly denied the flight because it had already given permission to a second plane that was engaged in an emergency landing.
