Former Sen. John Edwards pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of using illicit campaign funds to cover up his affair—though he admitted some obvious wrongdoing. “There is no question that I have done wrong,” Edwards said in a brief statement to reporters in North Carolina. “But I did not break the law.” Edwards faces six felony counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions, and one count of making false statements. Sources say the indictment came down after Edwards refused to cop a plea deal.
