So little is known about Kim Jong Il’s presumed heir, Kim Jong Un, that even a brief appearance at a military parade is cause for headlines. For the first time, state television in North Korea aired live pictures of him on Sunday. His chest covered in medals, the younger Kim watched as thousands of troops goose-stepped before him and missiles rolled by carrying slogans of the Korean People’s Army, like, “Defeat the U.S. military. U.S. soldiers are the Korean People's Army's enemy.” On Saturday evening, he also appeared alongside his father at a sporting event, sending the crowd into a frenzy. It is still unclear whether or not Kim Jong Un is North Korea’s new leader, but his sudden promotions and visibility suggest that he either is or will become the leader shortly.
