Kony Cofounder Had ‘Reactive Psychosis’

Less than a week after Kony 2012 director Jason Russell was detained for masturbating in public and vandalizing cars, a doctor has diagnosed him with “brief reactive psychosis.” The Invisible Children cofounder was reportedly not under the influence of alcohol or drugs during his public breakdown and will “remain under hospital care for a number of weeks,” his wife Danica Russell said in a statement Wednesday. Russell, 33, was hospitalized in California after witnesses saw him acting out in an apparent fit of rage and committing lewd acts. He had become an overnight sensation after his video detailing atrocities committed by Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army in the Central African Republic went viral. Russell’s wife said the “preliminary diagnosis” of his condition was brought on by “extreme exhaustion, stress, and dehydration” and that doctors said his response wasn’t abnormal given the emotional and physical stress he’d been under.
