A Mariachi band joined by more than 100 protesters on Friday gathered outside the home of a New York City lawyer caught on camera earlier this week threatening to sic immigration authorities on Spanish-speaking restaurant staff. As the band played, demonstrators reportedly chanted “Ole, Ole! Throw him out!” and “Hablamos Español!” in front of Aaron Schlossberg’s building. The impromptu “Latin Party,” which also featured free tacos, was made possible by a GoFundMe campaign called “Mariachis for Aaron” that raised more than $1,000. Schlossberg has faced a growing backlash after a video of him threatening to have Spanish-speaking restaurant workers “kicked out of my country” went viral earlier this week. He was reportedly booted from his office space and a petition to have him disbarred had collected more than 25,000 signatures as of Saturday.
