R. Kelly supporters and protesters clashed outside his Chicago studio on Saturday, shouting at each other over the rapper’s alleged sexual abuse of women, according to a reporter on the scene. NBC Chicago’s Chris Hush tweeted, “NOW: R. Kelly supporters clash with protesters in front of his West Side studio. Two white vehicles (Cadillac & Rolls-Royce) came out from behind warehouse & started blasting his music.” Outrage against the singer-songwriter has erupted in the wake of Surviving R. Kelly, a docuseries that chronicles the accounts of women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. Stories in the program range from R. Kelly’s marriage to now-deceased singer Aaliyah, when she was just 15-years-old, to allegations that he trolled teen hangouts for underage girls. Despite the six-part Lifetime series, many remain on R. Kelly’s side, or are at least speaking out in his defense. The recently aired show also prompted Lady Gaga to apologize for not speaking out against R. Kelly, with whom she worked on” Do What U Want (With My Body),” sooner.
