“Hear my voice, Alexander Graham Bell” is no “My name is Judge,” but it certainly is exciting anyway. The Smithsonian has for the first time identified a recording of the voice of the inventor of the telephone dating back to 1885. As well as saying his name, Bell also recites a series of numbers and several lines from Shakespeare. Bell made the recording on April 15, 1885. Researchers have developed an alternative playback system using light and 3-D cameras to capture its bumps and grooves to play the recording, as it is too fragile to be played with a needle. The clip has been posted online.
