Nearly a week after Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Sultan died of colon cancer, his successor has been named. The country's King Abdullah appointed Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz to the position of crown prince today. For the first time, a family council was asked to approve the king’s selection, in order to create a more regulated succession process. Nayef has been preparing for this role in recent years, running the kingdom daily in Prince Sultan’s and King Abdullah’s absence.
