Islamist militants in Somalia detonated a truck bomb in front of the education ministry in Mogadishu Tuesday, killing at least 70 people The truck exploded at a security checkpoint near the entrance to the ministry. Al-Shabab, the militant group with connections to al Qaeda, has taken responsibility for the assault. It’s the biggest attack in the capital since al-Shabab withdrew in August after an offensive by African Union troops. Suicide attacks were unheard of in Somalia until 2007, when al-Shabab began using them as a tactic.
