A writer reflects in Canada's National Post on the curious things left behind by her grandfather, who died after a full life of accomplishment, aged over 100:

My brother and I weren’t expecting to find this much stuff. … he was a man perfectly happy to make do and mend, and use and reuse, and to do without. For years, he had this Styrofoam soup cup that he used as a soap dish until I couldn’t stand it anymore and went to The Bay and bought him a proper soap dish. When I gave it to him he asked me why I thought he needed such a thing —he already had the crumbling, three-year-old Styrofoam cup.

It's a charming essay, in which you may hear an echo of somebody you know … or possibly yourself.
