More than 170,000 people in Bangkok protested the Thai government’s upcoming elections, demanding that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra step down and be replaced by an unelected “people’s counsel.” While the protests, dubbed Bangkok Shutdown, started peacefully this week, two people were shot and wounded Tuesday night, and an explosive device was thrown at an opposition leader’s house. Elections are to be held February 2.
