Brian Williams Blames His ‘Ego’

In the first interview since his February suspension from NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams blamed his ego for driving him to exaggerating stories he was involved in like being “shot down” over Iraq. “This came from clearly a bad place, a bad urge inside me,” Williams told Matt Lauer on the Today show on Friday. “This was clearly ego-driven, a desire to better my role in a story I was already in.” Williams was essentially busted down to MSNBC by the Peacock Network on Thursday, when it also announced that Lester Holt would be the permanent anchor of Nightly News. Holt will be the first African American to host a network evening newscast solo.
