Shepard Fairey, the artist responsible for the iconic Obama HOPE poster, is not taking the Associated Press' claims of copyright violations lying down. The artist filed suit against the photo agency in New York today, denying his red-white-and-blue image infringes on their original photo. Fairey's attorneys claim the AP photo was morphed into a "stunning, abstracted and idealized visual image that creates powerful new meaning and conveys a radically different message." The AP, on the other hand, is seeking credit and compensation for the image, though it has yet make a move in the courts.
