President Obama said Wednesday that his biggest regret is that the lame-duck Congress failed to pass the Dream Act, which would legalize immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. The president suggested the next Congress take up the issue, but Republicans are already pouring water on that fire. House GOP members said in interviews that they still have grave concerns about the bill. "It is pointless to talk about any new immigration bills that grant amnesty until we secure the border, since such bills will only encourage more illegal immigration," said Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX). Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said it was "extremely unlikely" that any version of the bill would pass the House under the 112th Congress. "When you're traveling in the wrong direction, modest alterations don't make a difference," said a spokesman for Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL).
