We were all rooting for him, but Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ intern, Daniel Hernandez, 21, has lost the election to become student government president at the University of Arizona. Hernandez became a national hero when he rushed to Giffords' side after she was shot in January, applying pressure to her gunshot wound until the EMTs arrived on the scene. He was " defeated handily" by James Allen, who took home 66 percent of the 1,986 ballots cast to Hernadez’s 21 percent. Both Allen and Hernandez had been disqualified from the general election in March for campaign violations.
