NATO and Libyan rebels have rejected Gaddafi's proposal for a ceasefire and truce made in a rambling pre-dawn speech on Saturday, in which he said he was open for negotiations and asked, "Why are you attacking us?" Though Gaddafi claimed " the door to peace is open," he said he wouldn't step down from his leadership post. NATO said it needed "not words, but actions" from Gaddafi's regime before it would consider negotiating a ceasefire. A spokesman for Libya's Transitional National Council said there was no room for compromise: "The people of Libya cannot possibly envisage or accept a future Libya in which Gaddafi's regime plays any role." Pro-Gaddafi forces continue battling rebels for control in the country's strongholds, including Misrata, where NATO has intervened to prevent a government blockade on its port. NATO flew over Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli Saturday, dropping three bombs, which wounded three guards.
