In a last-minute scramble before Congress’s August recess begins, the GOP-led House passed a $694 million bill to help with the influx of child migrants at the border, though the bill was significantly revised to appease the House’s most conservative lawmakers. Four Republicans and all except for one Democrat opposed the bill, which passed with a 223-189 vote on Friday. On Thursday, an earlier version of the bill failed to even come to a vote after tea party-backed Senators Ted Cruz and Jeff Sessions, along with outside conservative groups, objected.
