Israeli authorities arrested 10 anti-Arab, right-wing activists after raiding their homes early Tuesday. Among those arrested were members of Lehava, a known right-wing group, including the group’s leader, Benzi Gopstein. The 10 members were detained on suspicion of incitement and calling for violent crimes. Three Lehava members were reportedly behind the Thursday torching of a bilingual Hebrew-Arabic school in Jerusalem and are already in custody. Gopstein’s lawyer argued one of those arson suspects offered incriminating evidence on his client in exchange for a lighter sentence. Israeli politician Zahava Gal-On, who leads the left-wing Meretz party, praised the arrests and pushed for more to be done: “We must put an end to the feeble response to an organization that uses terrorism and violence against those who work toward coexistence.”
