A ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine ended Wednesday with a rebel assault on the town of Maryinka. Intermittent fighting has persisted throughout the ceasefire, signed in February, but Ukrainian forces say rebels are using tanks, mortars, and artillery in the latest clashes. “The situation began to deteriorate last night, the enemy began to shell our positions... as a result of these attacks Maryinka is still on fire,” a Ukrainian military spokesman told the Interfax news agency. Shelling has cut off electricity in several mines in the region, leaving hundreds of miners trapped inside.
