Three Americans, including two students and a health-care volunteer, were killed in a bus crash in Honduras, authorities said Wednesday. All three women, who were Columbia University students, were killed when their bus swerved off a road and plunged about 80 feet into a gully. The students were identified as 19-year-old Olivia Erhardt; 21-year-old Daniella Moffson; and 45-year-old Abigail Flanagan, according to a university statement. Flanagan was also a nurse practitioner at Columbia University Medical Center, University President Lee Bollinger said in a statement. At least 12 other Americans on the bus were reportedly injured, authorities said. The group, which traveled to Honduras as part of a school program called Global Brigades, was driving from San Juancito to the airport to head home when the accident happened.
