Prosecutors said Wednesday that a white Alabama police officer has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man. Montgomery Police Officer Aaron Smith, 23, was arrested and posted his $150,000 bail shortly after he was taken into custody, said Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey. Smith fatally shot Greg Gunn, who was walking home from a friend’s house a few blocks away on Feb. 25 at about 3:20 a.m. The officer claimed Gunn looked “suspicious” and approached him. Authorities initially said Gunn was carrying a stick or a cane, but it’s unclear if he was holding anything. The case is under investigation and will be presented to a Montgomery County grand jury.
