Gaddafi Stronghold Under Siege

This is becoming a weekly occurrence: Anti-Gaddafi Libyans charged into a Gaddafi stronghold. Monday, the fighters stormed into the coastal city of Sirte, forcing loyalist residents to flee. The former rebels entered from the east for the first time, helped by NATO warplanes. The battle has raged on for a few days in the city, with pro-Gaddafi forces pushing back the fighters entering from the west over the weekend. As the siege intensifies, fear of an rising civilian toll has increased. A Gaddafi spokesman has said that NATO bombings have killed hundreds in Sirte.
