California Gov. Gavin Newsom mocked Donald Trump’s out-of-place hair as he entered the House chamber for his State of the Union address on Tuesday.
Newsom, who would go on to post counterpoints on social media as Trump spoke, feigned horror at the 79-year-old president’s wispy appearance.

“Oh no, Donald,” the Democrat, 58, wrote on X. “You need some of my hair gel!!!”
Newsom has previously mocked Trump’s looks by taking aim at his frequent hand bruising and blurring out part of his TIME magazine cover.
Trump, who has long taken pride in his hair, last year signed an executive order that he claimed would help it by getting rid of environmental water pressure restrictions on showerheads.
“I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair. You have to stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out, ‘drip, drip, drip.’ It’s ridiculous,” he complained.
When reached for comment, the White House lashed out at Newsom.
The potential 2028 presidential candidate “should shut his filthy mouth and apologize to Black people for demeaning them earlier this week,” a spokesperson told the Daily Beast. “He should be more concerned about his own appearance— which quite frankly many people have serious questions about— instead of talking about others.”
Some on the right accused Newsom of making a racist comment on Sunday while speaking with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. Newsom denied doing so, and criticized the “fake f---ing outrage.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Newsom’s press office adopted Trump’s posting style to claim that he was taking right-wing media’s attention off of the president on his special day.
“WOW!!! JUST GOT A CALL FROM A VERY RELIABLE SOURCE (TOP LEVEL) THAT DONALD TRUMP IS FURIOUS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I, GAVIN C. NEWSOM (GOVERNOR OF THE FREE WORLD) HAVE COMPLETELY “HIJACKED” THE NEWS ON HIS “BIG SPEECH DAY” WITHOUT EVEN TRYING,” he wrote on X.
Among his press office’s posts during Trump’s record-setting 108-minute address to Congress was an altered image of the president’s cabinet members, whom Newsom labeled “The Epstein Cabinet.”
