ND Approves Strict Abortion Laws

“It’s a good day for babies,” North Dakota Rep. Bette Grande said Friday. It’s a bad day, however, for women seeking abortions in the state. The North Dakota Senate approved two anti-abortion bills Friday. One bill bans abortions as early as six weeks into the pregnancy. The other prohibits terminating pregnancies because of genetic defects like Down syndrome. They would be the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation if the governor signs them into law. Supporters of the measures say the goal is to challenge Roe v. Wade in the Supreme Court. Currently, the only North Dakota abortion clinic is in Fargo, and these measures could very well shut that center down.
