Riots Rage in Port Said, Cairo

Violence flared for a fifth day in Egypt, as protests against death sentences for “ultra” soccer fans raged in Port Said and Cairo. The riots come a day after President Morsi announced a state of emergency and placed a curfew on the cities of Suez, Ismailia, and Port Said. Protesters fought back against armored cars using rocks and shoes, and called for everyone to ignore curfews. Meanwhile in Cairo, cops used tear gas to hold back rioters by the Kasr el-Nile bridge. The state-of-emergency order suspends most civil rights and the judicial process—something that Hosni Mubarak was notorious for doing.
