The Swedish cartoonist who was the key speaker at the event in Copenhagen where a gunman opened fire says he refused to be intimidated. “I’m not going to let this attack scare me. I’m going to continue just like I always have,” says Lars Vilks, who has faced death threats since depicted the Prophet Muhammed as a dog in 2007. The terrorists, he added, “must realize their project is meaningless.” Vilks believes he was the main target of the attack, which left one dead and three injured.
According to Danish media, the suspect is a 22-year-old named Omar El-Hussein, who had a criminal record that included a stabbing in 2013. He reportedly was only released from jail two weeks ago. The suspect was killed by Danish police after the attacks.
