Taylor Swift fans have rejoiced after the artist blocked Donald Trump from using her music in a TikTok.
The “Team Trump” account posted a clip of the president and First Lady Melania set to the song “August” from Swift’s 2020 album “Folklore” on Monday. The awkward clip captured their padded shoulders and unmoving stances as they watched a July Fourth fireworks display from a balcony.
“I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august,” the caption read.
Fans immediately called on the 36-year-old Swift to take action to get the song “August” taken off the clip.
“Here before Taylor Swift tells him to take it down,” one person wrote soon after publication, gaining almost 25 thousand ‘likes.’
While the pop star never personally addressed the post—it appears she or someone on her team got to work to have the audio removed. By Friday evening, the video was made even more awkward by its silence and a tag reading: “This audio is not available.”
“TAYLOR REMOVING THE AUDIO QUEEEEEEN,” one commenter wrote.
Another joked: “Is the song with us right now?”
“Hahahahaha you messed with the wrong successful woman,” said a third.
A fourth celebrated: “She muted it, well done Taylor Swift.
As of Saturday, Team Trump’s caption about Swift’s “excitement” for her audio to be used remained unchanged, adding to the video’s awkwardness.
While Trump’s social media team gleefully used a Taylor Swift song, the president himself has publicly—and messily—aired his beef with the singer-songwriter.
Following years of being uncomfortably fawned over by Trump, Swift wrote on X in 2020: “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump.”
The world’s highest-grossing live performer then endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024, which really set Trump off.
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” he raged.
He followed up during the opening months of his return to the White House by musing, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
Although it seems that Swift’s team might be working to keep their separation from the MAGA crowd, Trump now appears to be making an effort to get back in her good graces.
Asked his opinion about Swift’s engagement to now-husband Travis Kelce last August, Trump shocked reporters by stating: “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player and he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”
