The World Health Organization declared Friday that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is now a global health emergency. “Countries affected to date simply do not have the capacity to manage an outbreak of this size and complexity on their own. I urge the international community to provide this support on the most urgent basis possible,” said Margaret Chan, head of the WHO. The WHO issued a similar warning this May for polio and in 2009 for swine flu.
