Some of the leading advocates on healthcare reform are calling for a CEO or someone with similar experience in the private sector to run the insurance marketplace under the Affordable Care Act, according to a report in Reuters on Sunday. Amongst the advocates for a CEO? Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of former White House chief of staff Rahm Emaneul and a bioethicist, and the Center of American Progress, the Washington thinktank founded by Obama’s newly appointed senior adviser John Podesta. But fans of the private sector shouldn’t rejoice yet: a senior administration official refuted the report, saying “this isn’t happening. It’s not being considered.” Meanwhile, a last-minute surge in enrollment pushed Obamacare sign-ups to 1.1 million, federal officials said Saturday.
