This isn’t the kind of surprise most people like to see in their paychecks: McDonald’s employees in Canton, Ohio, found a letter in their paychecks urging them to vote for Republican candidates for governor, Senate or Congress. The letter said benefits and raises would be affected if the workers did not vote for Republicans. The pamphlet named three candidates and stated “the following candidates are the ones we believe will help our business move forward.” McDonald’s spokesman Joe Woods emailed an apology on behalf of the store’s owner, Paul Siegfried, and called the pamphlet a “lapse in judgment on Mr. Siegfried’s part.” Woods said Siegfried's action didn't represent the policy of McDonald's. The Canton City Council president, Allen Schulman, a Democrat, has requested that authorities investigate the incident.
