Where did that come from? A few weeks ago, photos surfaced of what appears to be a Chinese stealth fighter jet capable of dueling with the best planes the U.S. military has. Just days later, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet announced China has completed an anti-ship missile designed to take out American aircraft carriers. Both of the developments came way ahead of U.S. predictions, and seem to have caught the military by surprise. They had expected the stealth fighter to take at least another decade, and had given no indication that the closely monitored anti-ship missile was near completion. Military analysts expressed worry as Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced $78 billion in cuts to projected budget growth at the Pentagon over the next five years.
