A 22-year-old Uzbek man entered a plea of guilty Friday to plotting to kill President Obama. Ulugbek Kodirov, who said he was acting at the direction of an Islamic terrorist group when he made plans to kill Obama with an automatic rifle, entered his plea in a Birmingham, Ala., district court. The man’s defense attorney said his client received a sentence of 30 years in prison instead of life because he pleaded guilty. The judge told Kodirov that he would face deportation once released from prison. According to the plea deal, Kodirov contemplated a suicide attack that would have involved shooting the president from close range in a public setting, and made multiple threats on the president’s life to undercover officers or police informers. He was arrested in July.
