Two massive brush fires ripped through the Angeles National Forest and Duarte and Azusa, spreading across 2,000 acres in California. The fire, referred to as the Reservoir Fire, began shortly after 11 a.m. and grew due to dry air conditions and scorching temperatures. At least 300 firefighters were trying to put it out but it could not be contained by mid-afternoon.
