Eyewitnesses reported a major Egyptian offensive against militants in Sinai on Saturday. Not only troops, but tanks and Apache helicopters reportedly attacked Islamic militants in towns bordering the Gaza Strip. According to an anonymous Egyptian military official, the army intends to "clean" the area in the peninsula where the militants are active, including the towns of Rafah and Sheikh Zuweyid. This is reportedly the biggest operation of its kind in the area in recent years, althoguh there are no numbers yet for reported casualties.
