Dylann Roof was able to legally buy a gun despite admitting to drug possession because the paperwork reviewed by the FBI was wrong. The stunning admission was made Friday by Director James Comey, who said a background-check reviewer never saw Roof’s arrest report because the wrong arresting agency was listed on his gun application. After three days, the application automatically went through because the reviewer didn’t have enough time to deny or authorize the gun purchase. “If she had seen that police report, that purchase would have been denied,” Comey said. Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder for attacking a Bible study group at the historically black Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.
