Senators Want to Arm Syrian Rebels

If Syria is going to slide into civil war, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) want Syrian rebels to have U.S. weapons. “The Iranians and the Russians are providing Bashar al-Assad with weapons,” McCain said during a visit to Kabul. “People that are being massacred deserve to have the ability to defend themselves.” Indeed, Iran sent two warships to dock at the Syrian port of Tartous this weekend. Iran’s state media said they were there to train Syrian forces, as agreed to a year ago. Activists say military reinforcements are heading toward Homs, which has been under assault for more than two weeks.
