A man armed with an assault rifle, wearing a gas mask and bulletproof vest, tried to barge into a courthouse in Forsyth, Georgia on Friday morning before being shot dead by police officers. The man, who shot one officer in the leg, has been identified as Dennis Marx, a self-identified sovereign citizen who was part of an anti-government group tied to violent attacks on law enforcement around the country. Marx was due in court Friday to enter a plea for drug and weapons charges. Police say Marx was armed with explosives, ammunition and “stop sticks” that he threw out as he drove to the courthouse so no one could get to him. “He came for the purpose of occupying the courthouse,” said Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper.
