Days after Tom Steyer was targeted with a mail bomb by a far-right Trump supporter, the president on Sunday attacked the billionaire Democratic donor, who appeared on CNN’s State of the Union earlier Sunday. “Just watched Wacky Tom Steyer, who I have not seen in action before, be interviewed by @jaketapper,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “He comes off as a crazed & stumbling lunatic who should be running out of money pretty soon. As bad as their field is, if he is running for President, the Dems will eat him alive!” Steyer runs a liberal organization aimed at impeaching the president, and he is thought to be considering a presidential run in 2020. Cesar Sayoc of Florida is accused of having sent pipe bombs through the mail to prominent critics of the president, including the Obamas, the Clintons, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), among others. Steyer later responded in a tweet, writing: “It is unthinkable that in the midst of the horrible political violence our president would resort to name-calling instead of repairing the damage to the fabric of our country.”
