Speaking to reporters Friday, President Trump insisted that his anti-media rhetoric is just fine even after the arrest of a Florida man who allegedly sent 13 explosive devices to frequent Trump critics. “Well, I think I’ve been toned down, if you want to know the truth. I could really tone it up. Because, as you know, the media has been extremely unfair to me and to the Republican Party,” the president said. “I think the media has been very, very unfair. In terms of the Republican Party. And the way it’s been covered. And they understand that.” Trump claimed that “he did not see [his] face” on bombing suspect Cesar Sayoc’s sticker-covered van, adding that he only heard the suspect “preferred me over others.” When asked if he would reach out to former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—who were allegedly targeted by Sayoc—Trump said he would “probably pass.” Sayoc was arrested Friday for allegedly sending out 13 explosives by mail to prominent critics of Trump, including Democratic donors and government officials.
