Donald Trump reached out to African-American voters at a rally in Michigan on Friday, in an attempt to increase his numbers among the voting group that traditionally votes overwhelmingly for Democrats. “What do you have to lose?” Trump asked African-Americans in front of a majority-white audience. “You're living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs. Fifty-eight percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?” Trump is polling poorly among African-Americans, earning just one percent support nationally and zero percent in some crucial swing states. He also promised that, after his first four years in office, he will receive the support of 95 percent of African-Americans. So far this campaign cycle, Trump has reportedly declined invitations to speak to black groups like the NAACP and the National Urban League. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton responded to Trump’s remarks in a tweet later Friday evening, saying: “This is so ignorant it’s staggering.”
