A woman was publicly executed in Kabul on Saturday, by a man reportedly affiliated with the Taliban. According to Afghan officials, the woman was shot dead in front of a crowd for committing adultery. In a video of the execution captured by Reuters, a kneeling woman is shot five times by a man wearing a turban as 150 or so men cheer. “Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it’s the wrong way,” says a man who is not the shooter. “It is the order of Allah that she be executed.” The incident suggests just how much power the Taliban still has over the country, even near the capital.
